Thought of the month

Pray as though everything depended on God, work as though everything depended on you.

We have all seen plants and flowers in gardens, parks, even in lawns (ours or somebody else’s doesn’t really matter). They are small, fresh, tender, lively and these are things which really attract us. So when we have them around us we are full of awe and think these nature babies are just as good as goodness can be. Moving on the other side, we have all seen these long, stout and sometimes massive trees which are also loved for being a support, shelter, fruit bearer and giving everything else to sustain our lives.

But have we ever thought of how these plants become trees, how much care they need, how much nourishment they require, how to grow them? Yes, we have read and learned about it in schools, colleges and in botany classes wherever and whenever we had them (well, this is important). A lot of us know about it, not necessary in great depth, well those having gardening as a hobby, or are botany teachers, lecturers or in any other profession related to plants would. But we generally have some knowledge about it and think about how and when a plant grows into a tree.

Must be wondering that this is just another one about plants, trees and botany. Well, much to your surprise, it is not. Feel like banging your head against the wall? (can do that if you wish) But illustrations above were absolutely relevant as what I want to focus on is just very similar to these. So now I will come straight to the point (Yes, this reads a bit funny) and unveil the actual subject.

They are KIDS! Perplexed? Don’t be. Kids are just like small plants, they are full of freshness, novelty and innocence. Slowly and gradually with proper care, nursing and guidance  they grow up into adults (just like trees) who are able earn their living (bear the fruits),  sustain and support themselves and others as well. But as it happens to plants, if we do not let them grow naturally in their own way and pace and push them to grow faster and bear the fruit for us early, they most often than not, loose their potential and are able to give you the fruits for a small period of time (may be for longer time in some cases)  but they are not what they are meant to be and unfortunately have a shorter life span. At that point of time (when its late), we realize that we should have let those lovely flowers blossomed the natural way.

Same happens to the kids, if you ask them to grow out of their age and start behaving like adults, ask them to get you the bread and butter and ask them to shoulder the responsibility of sustaining the family.

The real question now – “Is this really happening?” I don’t think I need to put in the answer for that. Even more than to plants, it is really happening to kids. Whether its in your house, the nearby shop or at the roadside tea stall. These kids are doing all sorts of work. From cleaning utensils, doing laundry, selling tea, cigarettes, etc. So it’s not like that we are unaware of this, but we are ignorant and selfish enough that we just turn blind on it and sometimes even encourage so called (so called has been emphasised) as  we don’t even consider this as “Child Labour” or even just ignore this as well (Wow! we are really ignorant). We happily break the law and move ahead.

Whether in metros or small towns, this is everywhere. The parents or families of such children have their own reasons. These reasons are common and and quite known. They are poverty, large family to feed and they are not capable or should I say not educated enough and sometimes even illiterate.  So chances of the right decision being taken by them are really bleak (Sad!!). But by doing this, they are letting their children be the same uneducated and incapable beings as they are and as their elders were. This has been and will be followed for generations (such a pity). The evidence of this, you can get anywhere near you or you must have got but have hardly realised it or have ignored it (here again). A boy selling cigarettes or tobacco sachets (small packs) at a stall may not exactly know whether he is doing the right thing selling that stuff firstly at a age which he is not allowed to and secondly he may be unaware of the fact that this tobacco is so dangerous and can take lives even. Even if he knows all this, he has to be forcefully ignorant and just sell those to get some money in the house.

Questions popping in your mind? Started thinking what you can and should do? Well, this is a good beginning. And, now you’ll find all the answers as well. If some of you still didn’t get what I have illustrated and expressed above (aaa…..), nothing against you guys, All I have for you is ‘Thank you for sparing your time and reading this all the way” - It really takes some doing…(Hats off!!). But, what about those who understood it? Do I need to tell this? Well, the answers lie with them only as they would rather get going and would do some thing or the other towards it (you will surely see that) and would say with me – “Let Them Blossom”. For more of these, all you can do is just LET ME SCRIBBLE!!

The Biggest “A” of Attitude

Attitude comes from within. It is this attitude that makes you or, breaks you. A soldier who has lost everything – his kingdom, army, wife and children, looks at an ant trying to climb a wall even after falling off the wall time and again, and learns the biggest lesson of his life. What he learns is the positive attitude towards life and every situation that encounters it.

It is your attitude that makes you stand out from others. Positive and a win-win attitude makes you do what is otherwise impossible to achieve. There are many examples where people have conquered their ill fate through this attitude. Things become the way we look at them. Nobody is born to be a winner but, turns out to be so due to his winning attitude. You may develop constructive attitude by reading some motivating stories, hearing lectures or watching webinars on how to develop the right attitude.

People often get puzzled when they get stuck in some problematic situation. They lose their temper and patience about certain things happening all of a sudden in their lives. They forget to look towards the positive side of things and become too negative. Every problem has solution but, there are few human souls who really bother to get solutions. So, while serving an organization and also in your day-to-day life, you must practice this “Problem Solving” Attitude.

Now, let’s do a small exercise to understand the importance of this small word “Attitude”. Take a pen and paper. Allot one mark to each of the English alphabets starting from “A”. Now, when you have done so, total the marks for all the letters that make up the word “Attitude”. To your surprise, you will find that its score gets equal to 100. If you do the same for any word, you will definitely not get cent-percent score.

Hence, we have proven mathematically too that “Attitude” is the biggest virtue that plays an important role in the success and failure of a man. A wrong attitude makes even good things turn out to be bad for you.
